So, I live near the bottom of Leith Walk in Edinburgh (Scotland) and here are some of my favourite places to go. There are also a few other interesting destinations on the way.
Another old public house being refurbished into something new |
Games shop with lots of decent old games ad some new stuff. One of the best value games shops around. Arguably the coolest metal shutters when closed. It's a giant platform game in multicolour the size of the shop front. |
Some of the consoles and accessories on offer |
The local loyal haunt for any die hard Hibernian FC supporter / general nut-case Leither |
Really amazing Bike shop. Great second hand prices and new bicycles on offer. But the best thing about the shop is the free repairs and bike servicing bit outside to use by anyone on two wheels just passing by. |
Old man local in close proximity to my flat |
An interesting sales room that has second hand bric-a-brac You can find anything from cricket bats to car dashboards. It's a bit odd inside and doesn't seem that legit. |
Can't stress enough how amazing this Chinese supermarket is. The value of fresh fruit and vegetables is fantastic, alongside a vast array of weird and wonderful Oriental food. I go there a lot for my home cooking. Wonton anyone? |
A sports and greetings card shop. A throwback to an 80's store. The sports goods on show are new but from 20 or 30 years ago. Always worth a browse, if not just for a nostalgic look around. |
A Vintage specialist shop. Walking in is like stepping back in time. Babysham glasses, 50's record players, pine furniture and pre-war world maps are just a selection of items to be spotted. Art Deco galore if that's your thing. |
Relaxed bar with good variety of bottled beers, cider and and spirits. In the summer they roll out an artificial grass lawn to make their own little beer garden. |
Really cool interior furniture. Nice bespoke wooden bar and overall design is spot on. Drinks aren't to bad either. A bar that does food and drink, half way up the walk. |
My personal favourite record shop. Really helpful if the right guy is working. Old and new books and vinyl, the records are stored in a logical and easy to find way. It makes browsing a much nicer experience. |
An oddly brilliant place to get any home essentials. Light-bulbs of literally any kind and general affordable household gems. |
The Drill Hall holds all types of events and pop up markets. The Vintage kilo sale on the last Saturday and Sunday of every month is a peach. Paying for clothes by their weight is always good. Got to go early to grab the good stuff as it can be a bit of a free for all. |
Elvis Shakespeare |
Elvis Shakespeare outside display of bargains |
One of the best charity shops in the city. Just after Christmas they had a 'everything is 50p' sale. Bargains galore. |
Laid back, good value for money pub. Open late most nights too. Fantastic selection of beer and spirits. Comfy seating too is always an added bonus. |
A yellow bench |
Lovely desserts and burgers |
Moraccan food. The quality is excellent and It's a friendly and welcoming place to eat lunch or take away. |
BMX bandits |
Dug |
One of many Leith Walk's public restrooms. |
Just Googled: 'No Eighteen, Leith Walk'. First thing that came up was that of an article about a elderly gay man's death at this sauna... Found a new local then. |
Cheap and cheerful haircuttery. They don't talk too much crap while your hair is getting snipped either. Which in my opinion is a bonus. |
Just a wee hole in some boarding. |
The Cats Miaou is amazing. Craft and textile crazy people could look around for days in this modest sized shop. I did a lot of Christmas and birthday shopping for my Mum and Sister and they were chuffed to bits. Cards, jewellery, porcelain, prints and so much more. You'd have to go in and have a look around. So many cool items. |
A local grocery that does excellent fruit and vegetables |
If you need some cheap and good quality second hand furniture. Here is your place to visit. |
Record players, kitchen appliances, books, furniture, board games... They have It all. However the guy who sits at the desk doesn't really care if you buy anything or not. Best not to ask for help as he just doesn't care |
